When reading, and writing births the PhD

 As a student of communication with a journalistic background, I thought writing my class assignments and papers will come naturally. But that is until I realised that academic writing is a different thing altogether.

As times goes by I am coming to realize that academic writing is a culture on its own...having its own nuances, conventions, tones, and expressions. 

The sad thing is that you learn this things as you move along. No one will tell induct you. The lecturers will come to hammer a theory home (and they are many, borrowed from many fields) but then leave you to weave your way into integrating your thoughts, ideas and theories together.

What to write about and where do I get ideas? Mmmh...the mantra here is about reading and reading work by different writers....as you read, ideas come, you get acculturated, you get to learn the nuances and the mannerism of academic writing.

Mmmh. That is what I have picked today.
